CHANGE YOUR HEART (Part 12)
Hebrews 3:12 See to it, brothers and sisters, that none of you has an evil, unbelieving heart that forsakes the living God. 13 But exhort one another each day, as long as it is called “Today,” that none of you may become hardened by sin’s deception.
Let’s continue. Hebrews contains some of the strongest words on the heart. In this verse, there is a clear warning against having an evil, unbelieving heart that forsakes the Lord. The language used is quite clear:- see to it that none of you has that kind of heart.
This letter was addressed to believers. Why would the writer talk of an evil, unbelieving heart in a believer? Because, like we have seen in the last few days, it is possible to have a heart problem. By now, that should be clear to us. An evil, unbelieving heart forsakes the Lord even after tasting His goodness.
How do we ensure we don’t have that kind of heart? Look at the next verse as he talks about the need for exhorting one another. Simply put, the antidote against developing an evil, unbelieving heart is to be in close fellowship with one another. That way, we will keep each other in check against deception. Look at the verse again, this is plainly said.
Just before a believer forsakes The Lord, they begin to isolate themselves from the fellowship of the brethren. That isolation is what gives room to that evil heart. Sincere fellowship will remind you to keep your heart focused on the Lord. We all need encouragement one from another, otherwise the deceitfulness of sin will infect our hearts with evil.
Watch out that you don’t give room to an evil, unbelieving heart. Stay in the fellowship of the brethren.
Prayer:- Romans 1:12 That is, that I may be comforted together with you by the mutual faith both of you and me.
