A MATTER OF THE HEART (Part 8)
Psalms 14:1 The fool has said in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt. They have done abominable deeds. There is no one who does good.
Let’s continue, shall we? This phrase is one of those we keep quoting once in a while. This is simple, straight foward statement. Someone may be saying one thing, yet their heart believes another thing. That is where the foolishness comes in.
What you say with your mouth isn’t the main thing:- what you say in your heart is what counts. So, where does the foolishness come in?
Here is the thing. Outwardly, one is talking about God. But their hearts are secretly saying that God does not exist. Foolishly, they imagine they are fooling anyone.
Do you know many atheists still talk about God? They say all kinds of things about God, yet deep within their hearts they have this feeling that He does exist. On the other hand are these mentioned in our verse who constantly talk about God but then live as if He doesn’t exist.
When you convince yourself that actions have no consequences, then you are saying The God who talked about consequences does not exist. When you think there is no harvest coming for wicked deeds, then you are declaring the law of sowing and reaping as redundant, and thereby declaring the God who made that law non-existent.
Now you get why the one who says there is no God is a fool. It is matter that starts in the heart.
Prayer:- Dear Lord, help us to harmonize our talk with our hearts. *Jeremiah 8:9* _The wise men will be put to shame. They’ll be dismayed and taken captive. Look, they have rejected the message from the LORD! So what kind of wisdom do they have?_
